Electronic Cigarettes Benefits and Risks Discuss in Italian

Organized by Italy’s Higher Institute of Health in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, the “Electronic Cigarettes: Health Benefits and Risks, and Control Policies” conference aims to tackle several key issues, including scientific data, national and EU legislation and safety.

Scheduled to take place on February 13, at the at the headquarters of the Higher Institute of Health, in Rome, the conference presents speakers and attendants with the opportunity to present and learn the latest scientific findings concerning electronic cigarettes and discuss product safety issues, legislation and regulation and self-regulation.

Health authorities in Italy believe the growing popularity and commercial success of e-cigarettes make discussing the risks and benefits of these products on human health mandatory, so they can better propose measures of risk management.

This type of events are becoming increasingly important, since discussions held here could provide valuable information for future regulation of electronic cigarettes, especially since the new tobacco directive recently approved by the European Union gives member states the choice of regulating them as medical products if they so desire.

The plight of electronic cigarettes companies and distributors in Italy is well-known. Last year, the maxi-tax of 58.5% on e-cigarettes, which threatens to put most business owners out of business. The tax increase was scheduled to come into effect at the start of 2014, but according to the latest reports from ANAFE, Italy’s biggest association of e-cigarette producers, only 10 out of 120 operators were able to pass the new stringent authorization process, and none of them are able to pay the new tax. This has forced Italian authorities to suspend the tax temporarily, although e-cigarette business owners hope this respite will be used to change the legislation.

Senators' Slam on E-Cigs at The Golden Globes

If you tuned into the 2014 Golden Globes, you may have noticed that actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus puffing away on an e-cig during the opening monologue.

Apparently, Julia Louis-Dreyfus had ticked off some people by enjoying an electronic cigarette from the comfort of her seat at the Golden Globes. "You're killing the next generation of fans in your movies," Sen. Richard Durbin, D-Ill., said on the senate floor.

Lately, four senators: Dick Durbin, Richard Blumenthal, Sherrod Brown and Edward J. Markey sent a letter to both NBC and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association voicing that e-cigarettes should be subject to the same advertising and marketing rules that apply to cigarettes and that are designed to protect our children from the harms of tobacco use.

"The Golden Globes celebrates entertainers who are an influence on young fans," the four Democratic senators wrote on Tuesday. "We ask the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and NBC Universal to take actions to ensure that future broadcasts of the Golden Globes do not intentionally feature images of e-cigarettes."

That seems ridiculous, they might as well slam all of the television programs showing people smoking tobacco cigarettes.

UCI Allows Electronic Cigarettes

The University of California Irvine will allow students and staff to puff electronic cigarettes and chew tobacco on campus, despite a university-wide ban that took effect in early January. According to a UC press release, the new policy is committed to cutting tobacco use and exposure to secondhand smoke.

E-cigarettes are battery-powered devices that produce nicotine-infused chemical vapors. They are commonly shaped like cigarettes.

According to the UCI spokesperson Tom Vasich, e-cigarettes emit vapors and not smoke. When no more scientific evidence is available that shows e-cigarettes are unhealthy, and that the vapor is unhealthy to others, the campus can further address the smoking issue.

He stressed that each campus was given the autonomy to come up with its own policies. If a student is able to end a difficult nicotine addiction with the use of an electronic cigarette, that will be great.

The Composition and Principle of the Electronic Smoking

The electronic smoking device has many forms which consist of electronic pipe, e cigarette atomizer and smoke cartridge three parts. The accessory is charger. At present, e cigarettes manufacturer uses disposable atomizer smoke cartridge which only has two parts. It is the most advanced the technology at the moment. It can solve the previous problems of the electronic cigarette, for instance, the previous e cigarette atomizer always damaged with few days.

Besides, the smoke of the atomizer is small, the mouthfeel is not good. Nowadays, the disposable atomizer smoke cartridge can completely solve the above problems. But only few enterprises possess the technology. The structure of the e cigarette atomizer is a heating component which is heating up by battery, which can volatile the lateral oil smoke and form into smoke. Thereby, it can make people reach the effect of slow drag. The internal structure of the tobacco stems are the same, which consists of lamp panel, rechargeable batteries and various electronic circuits.

The electronic cigarette is the perfect combination of the modern microelectronic technique, biotechnology and healthy lifestyle. Its composition segmentation of the electronic cigarette consists of steam flow sensor, control circuit, execute circuit, high power integrated circuit, high frequency ultrasonic generator atomizing chamber cover and built-in lithium battery.

The modern microelectronic technique can achieve the high scientific and natural function including air induction, simulation of smoke and gas temperature, and standby at any time. The smoker can feel the same pleasant sensation as smoking in traditional. From the perspective of biological, it can also simulate the whole smoke project, which creates the healthy smoke culture by fashion science and technology. It is named the perfect combination of the modern microelectronic technique, biotechnology and healthy lifestyle by the authoritative experts.

Electronic cigarette doesn't have the tobacco and combustion process without asphaltum oil, fire risk and other harmful ingredients. It adopts the humanized design to simulate smoke aerosol which is formed by the nicotine atomization without environmental pollution. It can also shield the electromagnetic wave without electromagnetic radiation. Besides, electronic cigarette companies use special feed line obstacle design to stop the smoker using the electronic cigarette continuously, which can degrade the frequency of utilization to ensure the health of the smoker. Normally, it can work between -5℃ and 42℃. Therefore, the smoker can use the electronic cigarette at meeting, business, public places and airport, anytime and anywhere, to enjoy their healthy lifestyles.
